Letcher County Public Library District

Our Mission

The Letcher County Public Library District was started in 1967 by a group of citizens who collected enough signatures, books and money to start a library. The first library was in an old train depot. 50 year later, your library has four branches spread throughout the county and a bookmobile. Letcher County Public Library offers programming, meeting spaces, and educational and entertainment materials for all ages.

In addition to a variety of books and videos, the libraries regularly show movies, have book discussion groups and host other community events. We also have programs for children and teens. Library locations within the district include the Blackey Public Library, Fleming Neon Public Library, Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library in Whitesburg and the Jenkins Public Library.
